SKINS GUIDE

At JMVC we use skins from meat consumption, so that the animal is not slaughtered solely for the consumption of its skin. These are all that you can find in our custom-made products.

Cowhide is, without a doubt, the best option for footwear, as it is guaranteed to last, breathes and is especially comfortable. Additionally, the amazing quality of cowhide allows our artisans to shape, cut, sew, finish and polish it into a shoe of great beauty, while maintaining its porosity and natural shape.

Full-grain leather has more collagen protein components with a thickness between 0.9 and 1.4 mm and the best profile for pigments and finishes, making shoes fit like gloves, are durable and have a beautiful and natural finish. For some of our pieces we use crosta or nubuck that give the shoe a more delicate touch.

At JMVC we have decided not to use exclusive leathers such as cordovan, boxcalf or exotic leathers. We do not believe that these leathers substantially improve the quality of our pieces in terms of finish, comfort and durability; It's more about exclusivity. Furthermore, these skins come from a sector of the animal market with which we do not feel identified. Our suppliers guarantee that the skins we use come from animals raised for the food industry with traceability and total transparency. Therefore, our exotic material only comes from engravings on beef.

The standard tanning process uses chromium salts, which are highly polluting and toxic to the skin. This tanning method is faster and the final results are cleaner. However, we choose to use a less harmful process and explain to our clients that any imperfections in the final piece (only aesthetic and never related to the quality of our premium leather) are due to the fact that our leathers are tanned using vegetable processes. . This method is also much more expensive in terms of time and method and does not guarantee as clean a finish overall, but it does ensure that we are working to protect our natural environment.
